4 Day City break & Souk Cuisine
Day 1
On arrival in Marrakech you will be transferred to your Hotel. Your Solitair guide will arrange your welcome icebreaker get together. Evening meal at the hotel.
Day 2
In the morning you will travel to Place Jemaa el Fna to be met by your guide for orientation tour (on foot) of the ancient medina, the souks and the 16th century Koranic school of Medersa ben Yousef.
Garden heaven! Afternoon visit to the wonderful oasis gardens of Les Jardins Majorelle. Former home of Yves St Laurent, the gardens are famed for their exquisite collection of rare palms, cactii and exotic bamboos and flowers. We suggest a tranquil afternoon sipping refreshing fruit infusions in the shaded outdoor restaurant and maybe a fruit-filled crepe if you are feeling indulgent. You may also wish to visit the Islamic Art Museum within the grounds of Les Jardins Majorelle.
Early evening you will visit the medina to experience the thrill of the Place Jmaa el Fna after sunset. The group can choose to take a birds-eye view of the main square and its fiery night-time activities - food grills, Berber musicians, colourful street entertainers and storytellers make this a feast for all the senses. Your guide will recommend a number of ringside roof-top restaurants. Alternatively, be brave and sample some of the local delicacies from one of the sizzling grills where locals come to eat – harira soup accompanied by honey cakes or dates is a deliciously simple way to start off the culinary safari.
Late evening group may opt to hit the night life to the sophisticated Jad Mahal for an elegant fun night’s dancing and people watching over a few drinks!
Day 3
After breakfast depart for your souk culinary experience in a riad medina cookery school. Learn to haggle in the markets for the freshest ingredients, prepare fragrant salads, tajines and Moroccan specialities. Together as a group you’ll conjure up a feast for a delicious late lunch. This course is ideal for all levels of ability from those that can just about boil an egg to those that prefer to fiddle with filo!
Cooking class and meal with wine ends approximately 3.00pm after which you can saunter round the labyrinthine alleys of the souks, visit the Museum of Marrakech, the tanneries in the north corner of the medina or return to your hotel for a few hours rest and relaxation.
For those that choose not to take the cookery option, the day is free to explore Marrakech and its historic sights, palaces and souk shopping. Or alternatively spend the afternoon getting scrubbed, steamed and rubbed with black soap and the miraculous argan oil – the secrets of Moroccan beauty can be found in the steam spa or hammam.
Relaxing dinner at your hotel restaurant in the evening with the opportunity to share the days experiences.
