Husky Safari:
The hotel Husky farm is situated just across the road from the hotel and some 250 eager huskies await your arrival to take you on an unforgettable and exhilarating journey through breathtaking scenery. You will be provided with the necessary outer thermal suit, gloves and hat on arrival and thereafter you will be shown to your very own team of six dogs. You will be given a lesson on how to drive the sledge and also how to observe that all-important hand signals, as given by your leader. Each time consist of six dogs, you the driver and your passenger who is comfortably seated in the wooden sledge. The driver and passenger can change places at any time during the safari.
Reindeer Safari:
The safari will ease away all your stress as you peacefully travel through the forest pulled by your own Reindeer. You are picked up by car from the hotel and driven to the reindeer farm where all necessary equipment will be provided. The safari requires no skills and reindeer will do all the work for you as you comfortably relax in your sleigh.
Snowmobile Safari:
Our snowmobile safari takes you to the small ski village of Saariselka situated some 10kms away. Private transfer by car from the hotel to the safari office where you will receive full equipment and important lesson follows. When everybody is ready the safari trail begins with a drive up to the beautiful Kaunisppa fell, 436m above sea level and from here you will have the most stunning views over the surrounding area. The trail then continues through the beautifully mystical forest.
Ice Fishing and Sami Culture:
Ice fishing is a truly Finnish experience and combined with a visit to the Sami museum in Inari will give you a day full of exceptional experience. Lake Inari is one of Finland's largest lakes and measures 120kms from South to north and 40kms from east to west. On arrival in Inari you transfer to snowmobiles and drive out on to the lake where we find the best spot. Our guide will drill the hole in the ice and show us how ice fishing is done. Any catch may be kept and the hotel's chef will be happy to cook it for you if you so wish. Lunch will be served over an open fire in the open air.
After the fishing we continue to Inari ans Sami museum. The museum will give you a very good insight into the life of the sami people, past and present as well as of life in Lapland in General.
Artic Ice Breaker Adventure:
The Sampo, the world's only tourist icebreaker ship, operates on the northern Gulf of Bothnia out of Kemi in Finnish Lapland. After serving for thirty years as an icebreaker in Arctic waters, the vessel has been given a new, more fascinating task - to act as a base for ice adventurers. The Sampo sails from the middle of December to the end of April. The trips last four hours. For scheduled sailings, it's worthwhile making make a reservation well in advance. We recommend these cruises both for individual travellers and for groups.
The frozen Arctic landscape, the winter darkness, the crackling frost and the clear starry skies with their Aurora Borealis offer visitors a unique experience in the midst of untamed nature. In late winter the sun appears in all its glory, painting the landscape a dazzling white - freshness and warmth to invigorate the traveller.
Cross Country Skiing:
Kakslauttanen is ideally situated for Cross-country skiing. The entire Saariselka area has a combined trail distance of 200 kilometres and there are varying degrees of trails from basic beginners to competition and technique trails to nature trail and illuminated trails.
The Illuminated trail passes by the hotel and these trails are kept open from early morning even after heavy snowfall during the night. You can rent skies, boots and poles from the hotel.
Down Hill Skiing:
The Scenic fells of Saariselka are just 10 kilometers from the hotel here the ever-popular ski centre, uniquely situated between two hills, offers something for everybody from the very beginner to the more advance skiers. There are 10 slopes in total of which 5 are illuminated and longest one is 1300 meters. There are six lifts available to transport skiers to summits every hour. There is a specially designed slop for Snow boarders and for known Skiers there is the world's longest toboggan run over 1 kilometre. Free ski bus service operates to and from the hotel to the Ski centre several times a day.
